diy: zipper pants into button fly

My boyfriend really loves 501 jeans mainly for their button fly. he had some jeans for with a ripped zipper that i turned into a button fly

i first started by removing the zipper from both sides just cutting along the edges nothing drastic
the button comes in two pieces one end is sharp and the other looks like the button part.
what i did was stab the sharp part through the back of the pant and placed the actual button on top of it. then  hammered it in, i thought i would need a special tool but a hammer works just fine. make sure to use force.

the next step is to line up the buttons and make a mark with a sharpie on the other button holders side. cut the button holes horizontally, i suggest making the top one vertical so all the buttons done slip out.
the final step is to sew around the button hole for a nice finish, i did this by hand just wrapping white string around the oval.
finished product!
all in all its pretty fast and cheap all we paid for were the buttons which we got at the flea market for 10 cents each. so they project cost a 30 cents and maybe an hour for time. happy crafting!
